PROJECT SABI
Interior design · Leiden
Concept
The concept of Sabi is based on warm minimalism and soft architectural elements. Instead of strong contrasts, the design focuses on subtle transitions between materials, light, and textures. Vertical wooden elements appear throughout the apartment, creating rhythm and visual continuity between spaces while also adding warmth to the neutral interior palette.
Indirect lighting is used as an architectural tool rather than only as functional lighting. Light is integrated into wall panels, mirrors, and built-in furniture to create depth, soft shadows, and a calm atmosphere throughout the apartment.

Approach
The apartment is designed as a sequence of connected spaces rather than separate rooms. Built-in elements, integrated storage, and custom wooden details keep the spaces visually calm and organized. The bedroom, bathroom, corridor, kitchen, and living area are all designed using the same architectural language, creating a sense of unity and flow throughout the apartment.
The material palette is intentionally limited to create a calm and timeless interior. Light oak wood, warm white walls, soft textiles, and ceramic surfaces form the base of the project, while black accents in lighting and hardware add subtle contrast and definition. Natural light plays an important role in the project, enhancing material textures and changing the atmosphere of the spaces throughout the day. Indirect lighting is integrated into walls, mirrors, and built-in furniture to create depth, soft shadows, and a warm, calm atmosphere in the evening.
