ABOUT
My name is Kalina, the creative heart behind KVL Design.
I create homes shaped around the experience of living. Every project begins with understanding how a home is meant to support daily life, creating interiors that feel intuitive, balanced and deeply personal. Rather than designing around a particular style, I believe every home deserves an identity of its own, one that reflects the lives unfolding within it.
This perspective has evolved through both education and professional experience. It has been shaped by a background in interior architecture, spatial planning and urban development, allowing me to approach residential design from multiple scales and perspectives. I hold a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and a master’s degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where I focused on sustainable and future-oriented environments. I further explored architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture and gained experience working on projects within the municipality of The Hague, related to urban development, spatial quality and the urban built environment.
From this perspective, I approach each project as one complete spatial composition, where layout, materials and atmosphere come together as a cohesive whole.
Approach
Every project starts with a conversation.
Before layouts are drawn or materials are selected, I take the time to understand how a home should function, what is important to those who will live there and how each space should feel. These conversations become the foundation for every design decision that follows.
As the design develops, every element is considered in relation to the whole. Layout, materiality, lighting and proportion work together to create interiors that feel calm, balanced and effortless. Throughout the process, collaboration remains personal and transparent, bringing clarity and confidence to every stage of the journey.
Designing around human experience
A home should support everyday life just as thoughtfully as it shapes the way it feels.
Every decision, from the overall spatial layout to the smallest material detail, influences the way a home is experienced. Rather than following trends or repeating a signature style, I create interiors that respond to each project individually, resulting in homes with a strong sense of identity and lasting character.
